Get in boats and meet the Guna Yala and Embera peoples and visit the Smithsonian Institute at Barro Colorado!

Panama City and Panama Canal

Begin your adventure in the recently restored UNESCO World Heritage Site of Casco Viejo (Old Town) in Panama City. Tour the streets to take in Panama’s colonial history and connect with an organization on the ground doing good community development to address wealth disparity.

Luxury Train Trip to the Colonial Capital

In no other part of the world can you cross from Pacific to Atlantic Oceans in an hour, or in this much style. You will do just that on this trip by taking the antique luxury train that predates the canal from coast to coast and check out colonial Colón on the other side.

Comarca Guna Yala at the San Blas Islands

The country of Panama is home to the protectorate of the Guna Yala peoples and its over 300 tropical islands. Visit some of the over 40 that are inhabited including large community islands where services are centered to learn about the culture as well as tiny one-family islands where you can rest and relax or challenge the locals to a game of volleyball.

Barro Colorado

Barro Colorado is a tropical island created when the Panama Canal flooded the Rio Chagres. The Smithsonian Institute turned it into the world’s first tropical protected area and today it is the most studied patch of rain forest in the world. You’ll be lead into the jungle by the resident scientists there that will highlight the area’s biodiversity and talk about their own research. You’re sure to see monkeys!
