Cuba Health Insurance is a Mandatory Requirement

… but don’t worry, it’s included!

The Cuban government is serious about the Cuba health insurance requirement for all visitors but your airline was nice enough to bundle it into the cost of your ticket much like they make sure you have your Cuba visa before boarding. It costs exactly $25 and covers your throughout the length of your trip so long as you are on a regular tourist visa.

Airlines have also contracted with ASISTUR (a Cuban agency that provides insurance) to cover you during your travels, but they are shy about stating this, due to the amorphous language from the US Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). With a receipt of purchase for your plane tickets and boarding passes (keep physical copies of these) you should have access to the Cuban medical system should you need it.

We recommend that you carry an additional form from the ASISTUR website to be presented to medical providers when the need arises.

We also counsel our clients to purchase emergency repatriation insurance to cover the cost of that eventuality.

There are no major health risks associated with travel to Cuba.

Travel healthy.

It is recommended that you speak with your medical professional prior to your departure to review any medical concerns.

Pack a supply of daily medications that include coverage for each day of the tour as well any possible delays encountered.

Consider packing a first-aid kit that includes antacids, anti-diarrhea medication and any other medications you regularly need.

Dietary restrictions and/or food allergies should be related to the Goodtrip team at the time of booking. To update this information closer to your departure date, please call us directly.

It is not advisable to drink tap water during your stay. We provide our clients with the free gift of a personal mini water filter from Sawyer so that you do not have to purchase and produce a small mountain of plastic bottle trash.
